1. How to Apply for a Licence? According to Massachusetts law, you must jointly file intentions to marry with a city or town in any community.
2. Is there a waiting period? Yes , there is a mandatory three day waiting period
3. May we marry before the 3 day waiting period? Yes, if you obtain a court order.
4. Is a blood test required? No.
5. Is it necessary to have witnesses? No.
6. At what age may a person marry in Massachusetts? 18 years or older
7. How long is a marriage licence valid? 60 days from issue
8. Are marriage licenses for other states valid in Massachusetts? No
9. If I live in another state can I be married in Massachusetts! At least one party to the union must live in Massachusetts.
10. Can a I marry by proxy in Massachusetts? No
11. What happens if you forget the license? The marriage will not be performed.
12. Can I make a photo copy of the licence? No. A copy can be obtained, from the Town or City for a fee.
13. Where is the marriage license filed? The license will be filed with the clerk who issued it.
14. Are we required to chose a ceremony offered by the Justice of the Peace? No.
15. What fees can I expect to pay? Fees are established by law, they are $105 if the ceremony is performed within the J.P.'s home town or $155 if performed outside the J.P.'s home town.
16. Rehearsals and Meeting I will charge $40 for wedding rehearsals and meetings.
